A bomb exploded outside the U.S. embassy in Beijing injuring the lone 26-year-old assailant from China’s Inner Mongolia region, reports Reuters. The embassy said the explosion was on public space off the southeast corner of the compound. According to police in Beijing, the suspect injured his hand. Police offered no information about possible motive. In the area are embassies of France, India, and Israel. A smoke after an explosion surrounded the area outside the U.S. Embassy in Beijing on Thursday, the media in China report. In addition to the explosion, the state-owned newspaper Global Times earlier wrote that police caught a woman spraying gasoline on herself at about 11:00 a.m. local time. The Associated Press reports that police did not comment on the incident. Reuters witness saw that police searched a car outside the embassy. Updates on social media show a large amount of smoke.
