Supreme Court in Pakistan disqualifies Prime minister Nawaz Sharif for holding an office and would order the accountability court to open a case against him, Dawn.com reports about measure voted shortly after 12:00 p.m. on Friday local time.
“The prime minister was disqualified from holding his office as the judges ruled that he had been dishonest to parliament and the courts and could not be deemed fit for his office,” Dawn reports.
The ruling came the court proceeded with the Panama Papers case and opened cases for several others officials, including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar; MNA Captain Muhammad Safdar; Maryam, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz.
As Dawn.com reports, the Red Zone was sealed on the security ground.
