Republican Senators John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins joined Democrats in not passing the Grand Old Party’s “skinny repeal,” bill during the voting early Friday in the Senate.
Returning to Congress after brain tumor diagnosis, Senator McCain voted for a motion to proceed the bill, but during early Friday voting, McCain voted against the bill. CNN reports, McCain’s “surprise vote came after a prolonged drama on the Senate floor.
Multiple Republican colleagues, including Vice President Mike Pence, engaged in animated conversations with the Arizona senator who has long cherished his reputation as a maverick.”
Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell said that voting is “disappointing moment.” “Our constituents have suffered through an awful lot under Obamacare. We thought they deserved better,” McConnell said from the Senate floor as small will left for repealing of the Affordable Care Act, something that GOP campaigned for seven years and the U.S. President Donald Trump made a cornerstone in his presidential campaign.
After the vote, Trump, who often uses Twitter to share his views, posted that 3 Republicans and 48 Democrats “let the American people down.” In the tweet, Trump once more said, “let the Obamacare implode.”
