Russia’s Defense Ministry Checks Reports on Al-Baghdadi’s Death in Russian Airstrikes in Syria

Russia’s Defense Ministry works to establish credibility of the report that in one of the airstrikes Russia undertakes in Syria, Islamic State group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed. CNN reports that, “according to information, which is being verified via different channels, the meeting was also attended by the (ISIS) leader Ibrahim Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was eliminated in the strike,” the ministry said, according to the TASS report in English. Baghdadi appeared in a 2014 video from a mosque in Mosul declaring a caliphate. Despite the shared video he was low profile, sharing his opinions in videos and audio messages.
