Special Prosecution Opens Three New Cases, VMRO-DPMNE Reacts

Time: 4:20 p.m. CEST

Almost one month before the end of the mandate for conducting investigations of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for criminal offenses related and which arise from the content of the illegal interception of communications, this prosecution opens three new investigations. The “Thaler” is a name of the investigation that targets financing of the political party VMRO-DPMNE.

According to Fatime Fetai, the investigation is about illegal financing of VMRO-DPMNE. Fetai talked about suspect, but did not refer to specific name during the news conference on May 22. As Fetai stated, a suspect, even though he knew the financial limitation, in the period of 2009-2015 enabled financing of the political party, contrary to the law. The prosecution has a reasonable doubt he accepted the unlawful means and he did not return the deposits into the state budget, as prescribed with the law.

According to Fetai, from the party committees the deposits ended in the financial accounts of the political party. The prosecutors investigate the sum of about 4 million euros, reportedly passed to the financial account of the political party. In the second investigation called “Trajectory,” the prosecutors have reasonable doubts about four high state officials in the arrangements for the construction of highways. The third case the prosecutors opened targeted building of houses in one municipality in Macedonia.

Political party VMRO-DPMNE reacted with a news conference after the afternoon conference of the special prosecutors. “All attempts and political pamphlets, whose aim is to present reported illegal operation of VMRO-DPMNE, the leadership and members, are incorrect and we are refuting entirely. All possessions of the party  are legally acquired,” Emil Dimitriev, interim prime minister and former general secretary of the party VMRO-DPMNE said.
