The U.S. President Donald Trump repeated his contention that the Trump Tower was wiretapped under Barack Obama’s administration. Trump talked to German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Washington D.C., and said, “At least we have something in common, perhaps,” referring to information that U.S. intelligence agencies under Obama’s administration, reportedly intercepted Merkel’s phone.
Trump and Merkel held joint news conference after the talks previously scheduled for Tuesday, but postponed due to a heavy snowfall. Trump made the comments despite the information from both Republican and Democratic congressional leaders who questioned the possibility that Trump “was wiretapped.”
Trump responded to the question about the White House press secretary Sean Spicer who said, “The UK’s GCHQ spy agency had carried out wiretapping on Trump during the U.S. election campaign.” Trump said Spicer was quoting a comment on FOX News, and referred reported to this cable and satellite network. As topics moved further from the interception issues, Merkel tried to spoke about other issues, but said, both has less time to discuss economic issues.
“Success of German has always been where the German success is one side of the coin and the other side of the coin has been European unity and European integration,” Merkel explained, even though Tramp backs Britain’s departure from EU. Merkel and Trump did not shake hands before reporters. The official meeting, as the Associated Press reports, included discussions on NATO, fighting Islamic State group, conflict in Afghanistan and Ukraine.
