Red-Yellow Protest Continues in Skopje

Protest continues on February 28, 2017, in Skopje by the citizens that are protesting recent political developments in the country. Citizens, actors, members of political party VMRO-DPMNE participated in tonight’s gathering and protest walk. Red and yellow ribbons are symbols of this protest. Organizers tonight said the Macedonia would not change its flag for the second time.

Boris Damovski, who is among several organizers of the Citizens initiative for Macedonia requested respect of the election will of people, without mathematical calculations. “After any elections, regardless who voted for whom, we need to respect democratic elections and results, not calculations.” Damovski also stated “Long-lived red-yellow Macedonia, to whom no one would change the flag for the second time,” Damovski stated.

After the end of the addresses to the rally by this citizens initiative, an incident happened. Medical staff took a reporter and a videographer to Emergency briefly after they were attacked. Later, the organizers of the protests condemned the incident and appealed to all people to restrain on their official Facebook page.

In 1997, Macedonia faced first large protests of VMRO-DPMNE’s youth organization that challenged first steps in the country by  SDSM government to introduce Albanian language at the level of university education in Macedonia. One of the members of students in 1997, who later become member of the Parliament, Filip Petrovski was live streaming from tonight’s protest.
