Assad’s military took control on the city of Aleppo, after the evacuation of the last group of civilians and rebels, a military statement read on State TV said, as BBC.com reports.
The evacuees “have been taken to rebel-held territory in the countryside west of Aleppo and in Idlib province.”
The army said, “return of security to Aleppo after its release from terrorism and terrorists,” as the government uses word “terrorists” for rebels. A United Nations official explained earlier “more than 34.000 people” left since last Thursday.
Aleppo, which was in the past Syria’s largest city, is again on the control of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad. BBC.com says, “this is a major victory for President Bashar al-Assad, whose campaign was aided by Russian air strikes.”
