Police in Berlin raise the death toll to 12 after the lorry attack into market on Monday and said 48 people are injured, the Associated Press reports.
In a truck attack in Berlin, nine people died, while many are injured. The attack, on which, police say, “It was deliberate attack,” happened into a busy Christmas market in the heart of Berlin, which is located at Breitscheidplatz, close to the Kurfuerstendamm, the main shopping street in the city’s west, BBC.com says.
“We are mourning for the dead and hope that many injured can get help,” Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman, Steffen Seibert twitted.
Emergency crews transported the injured, as the video of the Associated Press shows. Police appealed to people to stay away of the area.
An unnamed police officer, said to Agence-France Presse, “We are investigating whether it was a terror attack but do not yet know what was behind it.”
Those who survived the attack were trapped under the Christmas stands. Images of smashed front of Scania lorry show, the truck was registered in neighboring Poland.
On July 14, the lorry attack happened in Nice during Bastille Day crowds.
