There is no clear winner on the early election in Republic of Macedonia, although the preliminary results of the election, published by the State Election Commission on their website suggest tiny advantage of VMRO-DPMNE and coalition partners compared to SDSM and other parties in the coalition “For Life in Macedonia.”
However, despite the results, after the official announcement of the final results, both parties would have burden to submit the post-election coalitions with other participants in the election, as neither could have enough majority to form a new government.
Both, president of SDSM, Zoran Zaev and president of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski declared victories on the election. Zaev did that on the stage, greeted by many supporters, in front of the Government of Republic of Macedonia, while Nikola Gruveski choose to address the overcrowded media in the new party headquarters.
“For 10 times, majority of the population of Republic of Macedonia voted and with the largest number of votes they supported VMRO-DPMNE and the vision for Better Macedonia,” Gruevski stated at the party headquarters in Skopje.
Only 15 minutes before Gruevski’s address, Zoran Zaev with euphoric tone of his voice announced that people voted for “united country.” Zaev said to gathered people, mostly youth to “Enjoy,” as he stated that Macedonia is writing a “history” by denouncing “a regime,” on election.
However, neither could claim the decisive victory, as the data of the State Election Commission on the preliminary results, shows VMRO-DPMNE and coalition for “Better Macedonia” has about 37, 97% of the votes and SDSM and coalition “For Life in Macedonia,” has 36, 66% of the votes. The data reflects the tabulation of 97,42% of the polling stations. Democratic Union for Integration has 7,30% of the votes, while newly formed BESA Movement has about 4,88% of the votes.
