The annual turkey pardon is a silly tradition, and President Obama knows it, the National Public Radio Danielle Kurtzleben writes. But, Obama did it for the last time on Wednesday, when he pardoned turkeys named Tater and Tot.
“It is my great privilege — well, it’s my privilege — actually, let’s just say it’s my job to grant them clemency this afternoon,” Obama explained. This was a last time president Obama pardoned turkeys before the Thanksgiving holiday for tomorrow.
First daughters Sasha and Malia Obama did not attend the pardoning ceremony, NPR says, even though in the previous years they also attended the ceremony.
After the ceremony President Obama and family serve Thanksgiving Dinners to veterans at Armed Forces Retirement Home in D.C., Mark Knoller of CBSNews Radio reports on Twitter.
