Syrian rebels including jihadists counter-attacked the Syrian army and its allies on Friday, insurgents say, as Reuters publishes. The rebels break a weeks-long siege on eastern Aleppo. The attack, as Reuters publishes, included Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, a former affiliate of al-Qaida, known as the Nusra Front and other groups from the Free Syrian Army. After the beginning of the offensive by the rebels, the Russian Defense Ministry requested of the President Vladimir Putin a permission to resume air strikes. As Russia’s Interfax news agency reports, Putin said it was unnecessary to resume strikes yet, Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman said. Since the rebels offensive started, more than 15 civilians died and 100 others are injured, the monitoring body said. Syrian state media reported seven civilians died.
