Carnival Ceremony for Rio Olympic Games Closure

The Olympic Games in Rio finished with a closing ceremony inspired by the carnival and official handover to 2020 hosts to Tokyo, BBC News informs. The carnival ceremony lasted almost three hours at a wet Maracana and celebrated Brazil’s arts.

“Over the last 16 days a united Brazil inspired the world, in difficult times for all of us, with its irresistible joy for life, “International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach said, as BBC News online writes. The 31st Olympics closed after 16 days of competitions of 11,303 athletes from 206 nations and one team of refugees.

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was for a while a character the computer game Super Mario, which showed from a huge green pipe in the stadium. The closing ceremony included the parade of athletes and extinguishing of the Olympic flame.
