France Arrested Two in Church Attack

The Paris prosecutor’s office said they placed two arrested man under investigation in relation to the murder of a priest last week in Normandy church. BBC News reports, Farid K, 30, a cousin of the attacker Abdel Malik Petitjean, was detained on suspicion of “terrorist organization.”

The other person arrested is Jean-Philippe Steven J, 20, who reportedly tried to travel to Syria in June with Petitjean. Police killed both teenagers Petitjean and Adel Kermiche after they left the church. The attackers interrupted a church service, took hostages and slit the throat of Father Jacques Hamel, 86 in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray. On Sunday, Muslims in France attended Sunday’s services in Catholic churches to show solidarity after the murder.
