Police in Belgium carried out overnight raids in about 40 houses across the country and arrested 12 people under suspicion of planning new attacks. The Federal prosecutor’s office confirmed police action with a statement on Saturday. Reuters reports, “In connection with a criminal investigation concerning terrorism, 40 person were taken for questioning and 12 of them were arrested.”
The investigating judge, as statement explained, would decide on their possible detention. Public broadcaster VTM said, “People arrested overnight” planned attack in Brussels during the soccer matches in the European soccer competition in neighboring France. Security officials says, Belgian police has an anti-terror alert, a group of Islamic State group is on route from Syria to Europe for another possible attacks in Belgium and France. A day before the weekend, police detained a person Youssef E.A., a Belgian national, as someone involved in the activities with the Brussels attacks in March.
