New Hearing in Trial on Kumanovo Events from May 2015

The new hearing in the case of Kumanovo’s events from May 9-10, 2015 continued on Tuesday at the hall of the Supreme Court in Skopje. It was the second hearing after the begging of the retrial last week. informed that, “At today’s continuation of the trial, a judge Verka Petkovska read the witnesses’ statements, given before the merging of two cases together.”

The Court decided to bring together two cases those for the Kumanovo events of 2015 and the case “Lightning,” about reported logistical support to the entrance of the armed group in the suburb neighborhood “Tode Mendol” in Kumanovo, which was cleared by the police action in May last year. Two cases now consider the trial for 37 persons, some residents of Kosovo and some of Macedonia, but with Albanian ethnic origin.

Before the reading the statements of the witnesses, the defendant Kenan Iseni, complained to the judge that the police officers “beat him every time he is coming to the hearing.” As reports, the judge promised she would talked to the director of the prison to check those statements.

The lawyer Artene Ademi asked a judge to terminate the detention of two defendants  it represents – Musadi Pajaziti and Rahmi Latifi, but the court decided to rejected the proposal. Thirty-seven people are on trial under charges for “terrorism and terrorist organization.” The next hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, as reports. The first trial began on February 9, but retrial started on June 6.
