The Associated Press is publishing the Austria’s far-right presidential candidate admits the defeat on the elections in a Facebook post. News sites in Austria, who reportedly crashed upon the changes in the percentages of the votes for the candidates on the elections and other world media published, independent candidate Alexander Van der Ballen won Austria’s presidential elections.
With a narrow win of about 2800 votes, Bellen prevented Norbert Hofer’s win as the European Union first far-right head of state. Postal votes counted on Monday made a victory for Bellen, who promoted an pro-EU platform, supported by the Green Party. Other candidate, Hofer promoted anti-EU sentiment amid numbers of asylum seekers. The official result will be announced shortly.
The counting on Sunday showed Hofer’s led Van der Bellen by 51,9 % to 48,1%, but the 750.000 postal votes, about 12% of 6,4 registered voters changed the result.
