The White House: Lockdown lifted After Shooting in Area

The White House was on lockdown on Friday afternoon after the shooting happened at the 17th Street near the building. The U.S. Park Police, quoted by the Associated Press said the White House was placed on security after shooting on street outside.

Members of the secret service shot a man in the abdomen who was later taken to the hospital, CNN says. Earlier, the suspect had opened fire on the White House area, but it was clear what happened.

President Barack Obama left the White House earlier, but the Vice President Joe Biden was inside the complex during the incident.

The United State Park Police confirmed the shooting on Friday close to the White House. “Shooting on West Executive Drive PIO en route to 17th and Pennsylvania,” the law enforcement agency tweeted.
